Eustoma (Eustoma) - a herbaceous plant from the family Gorechavkov, shrub. The birthplace of eustoma is Central America, namely, Mexico and the southern part of the USA. In height, in natural conditions can reach 60 cm.

The growth rate of a Texas ringed bell (as it is also called) is low, at home a flower can be grown by a novice gardener with proper care. The lifespan of this indoor plant is 1-2 years, after which the plant is changed. Flowering occurs in the summer, large-sized flowers resembling bells bloom.

Eustoma: home care. In detail

Bloom

It accounts for the winter season: more often it is January-February. The flowering period lasts quite a long time, as the flowers appear gradually one after another. To maintain a neat appearance, all dried flowers and leaves must be removed. After flowering ends, a dormant period begins, which lasts a couple of months.

The previous regime of watering and feeding the eustoma resumes, soon after that new buds and fresh leaves appear. The appearance of blossoming flowers depends on the variety, they differ from each other in size, shape, color and duration of the flowering period.

Temperature mode

The optimal temperature for growing is 15-20 degrees. In this case, the flower will delight the buds every year, and if the air temperature is increased, flowering will be less frequent: once every two years. Low temperature negatively affects the growth and development of the plant, there is a risk of disease due to cool conditions.

Spraying

Home eustoma does not need spraying: it can cause various diseases due to high humidity.

Regular watering will be sufficient to provide the plant with moisture.

Lighting

For a pot with a plant, the southern window is best suited, which is well lit. But direct sunlight should not fall on the flower, because of this, leaves and flowers can dry out.

Eustoma at home requires a lot of light for the favorable course of growth and reproduction processes, so in winter the pot with the plant needs to be illuminated for at least 12 hours with artificial light sources.

Watering

It is carried out with a frequency of once every two weeks, the need for watering is determined as the topsoil dries (should dry by 2 cm). During the resting period of the indoor flower, it is necessary to reduce the number of waterings - up to 1 time per month.

Eustoma pot

The ideal container for growing a Texas bell is a medium-sized plastic pot; it is better to grow other types of plants in clay pots. The pot should be so high that the drainage layer can be laid quietly on the bottom (expanded clay or chopped polystyrene are suitable as drainage material).

You should not take too large and deep pots: in this case, the plant will not bloom for a very long time. Only after the root system has expanded and touches the walls of the pot does the flowering process begin.

Priming

As a soil for eustoma, soil for growing violets is best suited. A drainage layer of expanded clay is necessarily created at the bottom of the pot. Soil can be made independently: this requires mixing the earth, humus and river sand in equal proportions.

You can add a little lime to the mixture. Ground acidity should be neutral or slightly alkaline.

Acidified soil can lead to plant diseases, as zinc toxicity develops and plant development slows down.

Fertilizer and fertilizer

Caring for eustoma at home includes dressing for growth and flowering. For these purposes, suitable liquid fertilizers, in which there is a sufficient amount of potassium. How to properly spread the fertilizer is written on the instructions. On average, it is 10-15 grams per bucket of warm water.

Transfer

It is not necessary to disturb the root system of this plant without special need, therefore, an eustoma transplant is rarely performed. He does not tolerate this procedure.

Pruning

It is produced as the flowers and leaves dry out, as well as during the dormant period. All dried parts are recommended to be removed to maintain the decorative appearance of a room flower, and they can also hinder the growth of new shoots.

A houseplant is pruned, while always leaving several shoots with internodes.

Rest period

Starts after flowering is complete. The eustoma is cut off, and the pot is transferred to a cooler room with a temperature of no more than 15 degrees. During this period, the frequency of watering is reduced to 1 time in 3-4 weeks, and also a break is made in fertilizer application.

Growing eustoma from seeds

It is the main method of plant propagation. The seeds are quite small, on sale you can often find them in granular form. When sowing the granules do not need to be covered with earth: they need to be scattered on the surface of the soil, and then slightly pressed with your fingers.

On top of the pot is covered with polyethylene, in which holes are made for breathing and ventilation. For the emergence of sprouts, a certain temperature must be observed: at least 23 degrees, at night 15 degrees are allowed, but not less.

Seedling Care

The soil must be sprayed with a spray gun. The first shoots can be seen in a couple of weeks, subject to all the rules for seedling care. It must be put in a well-lit place (light should fall on the plant about 10-12 hours a day).

If the seeds do not grow well, then granules can be pierced with a thin needle before planting. The film is not immediately removed, gradually opening the plant to allow it to get used to the external environmental conditions. Sprouts (an average of 3-5 pieces) are transplanted into the pot after 1.5-2 months, they must reach a height of at least 10 cm.

The first flowering should be expected in 4 months.

Diseases and Pests

A plant may have certain problems:

  • eustoma will fade - One of the reasons may be a fungal disease, which often develops in this flower;
  • gray spots on the leaves - Botritis fungus (gray rot);
  • buds do not open - the plant does not have enough sunlight;
  • eustoma fade away - excessive ventilation, the stay of the plant in the draft;
  • wilted flowers eustoma - this is due to a lack of moisture in the soil.

The main pests that affect eustoma more often than others: mealybugs, thrips, aphids, whiteflies, mushroom mosquitoes.

Types of homemade eustoma with photos and names

Eustoma large-flowered (Japanese or grassy rose) (Eustoma grandiflorum, Lisianthus russelianus)

It is a herbaceous plant of a bush type, the leaves can be oblong or oval. The flowers bloom quite large, bell-shaped, varied color (white, red, blue, apricot, etc.). It is often monophonic, but there are two-tone species with a defined border.

The best varieties of this type:

  • Wonderus Light Brown - a flower of light pink color appears, the edge has a more saturated and dark edge;
  • Colorado Purple - blue flowers without additional color inclusions;
  • Roccoco Marine White - a white flower with a blue border;
  • Advantage Green - flowers are white, plain.

Eustoma Riddle

The plant reaches a height of 20 cm - a fairly low bush. When flowering, many flowers bloom: they are terry to the touch, bluish-blue in color.

Little bell

The bush does not exceed 20 cm in height, characterized by a dense network of branches. The flowering period lasts quite a long time, the flowers are small in size, can be of various colors, funnel-shaped in shape. Pinching an eustoma of this variety can be omitted.

Eustoma Fidelity

The size of the variety reaches a height of not more than 20 cm. It is characterized by a large number of small white flowers.

Grade Florida Pink

It is characterized by the appearance of pink buds during flowering, which then turn into flowers of light pink color of a miniature size.
